What is "That's AI" and who is it for?

"That's AI" is a free online resource that aims to explain artificial intelligence (AI) to everyone, young and old. AI is changing our world and fundamentally influencing our private, professional, and social lives – so we believe it’s vitally important that each and every one of us is able to understand this new technology and become part of the collective discussion around it.

Who is responsible for the content on "That's AI"?

“That’s AI” was created by the EPFL Extension School. Our mission is simple: we enable everyone to build the necessary knowledge and skills to benefit from the opportunities of the digital age. How can I make sure that I'm informed about new articles and features?

We add new articles to our website on a regular basis and have many more ideas to share with you regarding how to make the world of AI even more accessible and easier to understand. You can decide to stay informed by subscribing to our newsletter here.

How much does it cost to read the articles on "That's AI"?

“That’s AI” is a free online resource. You don’t have to pay anything to read our articles.

Are there any time restrictions to go through the content of "That's AI"?

No. “That’s AI” is an online resource that you can discover at your own pace, from anywhere around the world and on any device. No restrictions apply.

What are the requirements to understand the articles? Do I need any background knowledge in programming or maths to understand them?

Our articles are written for everyone – you do not need any background to understand them. If you feel that some passages are too complicated or complex to understand, please don’t hesitate to let us know via email thats‑ai@extensionschool.ch, so that we can adapt our articles and make them even more accessible.

Does "That's AI" include any quizzes, exercises, or exams?

“That’s AI” is a self-taught online resource. In the future, we aim to include quizzes on the platform so that you can test and challenge your understanding of AI. However, we will not include any graded exercises or exams for now.

Can I get a certificate of completion for reading all "That's AI" units?

We are currently working on a framework that will allow you to receive a “certificate of completion” to show you are informed about AI and testifies to your curiosity on the subject. To be informed about the launch of this new feature, please sign up to our newsletter.

AI is an ever-evolving technology which impacts all areas of our lives. No single person can be an expert in all different domains and applications of AI, so your help in adding to our content is highly appreciated. Brilliant! Please feel free to share our homepage or any of our articles via social media! We would be delighted to discuss different ways of how you can promote our content – and we have awesome stickers, cards and leaflets which we are happy to share!

I would like to have "That's AI" available in my language. How can I do this?

Due to availability of translators and funding, “That’s AI” is currently only available in English, French, and German. We hope to bring the fascinating world of AI to as many people as possible and are looking into different ways of providing the content in all languages in the future. If you think you would be able to help us translate “That’s AI” into your language – or if you know about funding which would help us to reach our goal – please don’t hesitate to contact us via thats‑ai@extensionschool.ch.

How is the content licensed?

The intellectual property rights of everything on “That’s AI” (content included) is exclusive property of the EPFL and the EPFL Extension School, if not stated otherwise. Can I use the illustrations and content from the homepage for other projects?

As stated in our previous answer, the illustrations and content of “That’s AI” are licensed. If you want to use our content for academic research, studies, essays, or teaching purposes, please respect the academic reference principle and clearly stress your source. Either way, we would be very happy if you would inform us about your project so that we can share it and make sure that others can profit from it as well – so please don’t hesitate to contact us via thats‑ai@extensionschool.ch.

Do you have an offline version of "That's AI"?

We do not currently provide an offline version of “That’s AI”.

Is there an audio version of "That's AI" for visually impaired readers?

We do not currently provide an audio version of “That’s AI”. However, we are aware of the need for this and are exploring normal (as well as artificial!) ways of turning our content into audiobooks or podcasts. Why do I need to enable cookies?

The advantages of providing your email address are two-fold. Firstly, it allows us to contact you with our newsletter to inform you about new articles, platform features, and other exciting developments in the world of artificial intelligence and “That’s AI”. Secondly, it allows us to give you a more personalized experience on “That’s AI”. Knowing who you are will allow us to save your responses to quizzes and better understand which topics you are most interested in.

How can I change my email address on the platform or for the newsletter?

I don't want to get the newsletter anymore. How can I unsubscribe?

You should be able to unsubscribe yourself directly via a link in the newsletter. Should this not work, please contact us at thats‑ai@extensionschool.ch and we will manually remove you from the newsletter.

I received the newsletter in the wrong language. How can I change this?

If you would like to receive the newsletter in another language, please contact us at thats‑ai@extensionschool.ch and we will take care of it.

Yes, we do! “That’s AI” supports companies in spreading key, basic knowledge around artificial intelligence, allowing employees to gain a solid understanding of how AI works and how AI-powered technologies apply to our world.
